Ambush Mountain Biking

Ambush Mountain BikingAmbush Mountain Biking.  What is Ambush Mountain Biking you may ask?  Ambush was founded by a group of mountain bikers on a quest for the very best trails to ride.  They started this quest by packing up and heading to Williams Lake. In their website is a description of their travels complete with pictures and video.  Click Here to view the Ambush Mountain Biking website.

Club Members On The Move

Our club members are on the move.  Several members have been busy travelling the province riding and competing in various events.  We'd like to congratulate some of them on there recent achievements.

Robin and Tom Schmitt entered as a team at the Salty Dog in Salmon Arm on May 24th.  In the over 71 combined age category they placed 2nd.

Kenny Thatcher on June 12th placed 5th in a hill climb event in Prince George.  The following day he placed 7th in Cycle Logic's road race event also in PG.

On June 14th several members placed very well in Williams Lakes Pedal by the Puddle.  John Courtney placed 1st in solo male under 40.  Troy Knutson and Gary Gale placed 4th and 6th respectively in the over 40 category.  Robin and Tom Schmitt entered as a team again in the 66-95 combine age event and placed 2nd again.

At the Test of Metal Bridget Nowakowski made an impressive showing in the female 55-59 category placing 1st.

Congratulations to all our members!

Time Trials

On Wednesday June 3rd we had 9 club riders take part in our time trials.  This was the largest turnout so far.  Everyone is enjoying checking their times every couple of weeks to see how much they are improving.  While it's a fun event for everyone and not a competition we have some riders pushing themselves to improve.  If you'd like to give it a try check our events calendar for the next scheduled ride.  Below you can see the updated times for all our riders.

Beginners Club Ride

Our beginners club rides have been going well so far this season.  The group meets at 6:00pm every Tuesday in Ceal Tingley Park.  So far our club president Lee has been showing the group around our Quesnel trails.  If the smiles on the faces are any indication everyone is having a great time.  Have you been wanting to give it a try?  If so please feel free to join the group next Tuesday.  Everyone is welcome.

Pedal By The Puddle

Pedal By The Puddle LogoOn Sunday June 14th Williams Lake BC is holding their 2nd annual Pedal By The Puddle mountain bike event.  It's a 6 hour "Enduro" cross country riding event. It may sound intimidating but most people do it in teams of 2, taking turns riding laps on the 10 km course.  The course is solid fun riding that is 80% singletrack with rolling, twisty trails, steady climbs and swooping descents.  There will be categories for teams of two or solo, by age and gender.  For more details please visit the Pedal By The Puddle web site at http://pedalbythepuddle.shawwebspace.ca/

Club Time Trials

Club Road RideEvery 2nd Wednesday the Gold Rush Cycling Club road riders get together for Time Trials.  Starting at 6:30pm from West Fraser School riders race against the clock over a 15km route.  Everyone is welcome to come out and give it a try.  Remember this is not a race against each other but a race against yourself.  Each TT you can try to better your previous time or see how you stack up against other riders of your ability.  For more details check our events calendar.

Here's a message from Barkerville Rush Relay...

"Greetings BRR Participants
Thinking about adding something to this weekend's fitness events?  How about bringing your bicycle along and joining the Quesnel Gold Rush Cycling Club on a ride back from Wells to Quesnel?

This will be a casual event. We will depart from outside of the Wells Hotel at 9:00 a.m. Monday, May 18th for the ride back to Quesnel.  You will need to bring water, snacks and spare inner tube, and a pump would be a good idea too. Be prepared for any kind of Spring weather and for the possibility of encountering wildlife.  There are a number of possible stops enroute. Food and showers are available at Cottonwood House.

Looking forward to seeing everything this weekend,
Greg"

Bike Swap & Maintenance
May 9th, 2009

Murray Repairing BikesThe Bike Swap & Maintenance day was a huge success!  Coordinated with the City and their Move for health day the Gold Rush Cycling Club sponsored a Bike Repair & Maintenance Day.

The event was very successful with many bikes and accessories being recycled to new owners.  Along with the swap club members took the time to perform some basic maintenance on the bikes being sold as well as any others from people stopping by.

The Gold Rush Cycling Club was able to raise funds from the swap that will go towards club activities and hosting other events in the community.

Thanks to all the volunteers that made this a huge success!

Trail Maintenance Day
May 3rd, 2009

Trail maintenance day gets rained out.  The scheduled trail maintenance day for Sunday May 3rd didn't quite go as planned.  Mother nature decided we needed some moisture more than we needed to work on our trails.

There were however a few hearty souls that braved the conditions to clean up a few trails that badly needed some help.  Several of these people were from the local trail running club.

Thanks to all that attended!  We'll look to schedule another maintenance day in the near future.
